Sanlorenzo obtains certification from Lloyd's Register for the Fuel Cell system

During the latest edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, Lloyd's Register (LR) awarded Sanlorenzo the certification for the Fuel Cell system and the type C containment tank, designed by the shipyard in collaboration with Siemens Energy.

Lloyd's Register supported Sanlorenzo in the validation of the project: the prestigious certification confirms the compliance of the methanol Fuel Cell system with internationally recognized environmental standards, enhancing its credibility in the market.

"The collaboration with Sanlorenzo on this innovative project affirms LR's role as a trusted consultant for our clients and demonstrates our support for those leading the development of solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the leisure boating sector. We are pleased to award Sanlorenzo this approval, which confirms that their methanol fuel cell system meets the required safety standards".
Paolo Izzo, Sales & Marketing Manager for LR in Italy, Monaco, and Malta

First on the market, this innovative and groundbreaking solution will debut with the new 50Steel line, a superyacht whose first unit will be delivered in the summer of 2024. The methanol fuel cell system will enable the yacht to generate electricity for onboard hotel services, with engines and generators off, significantly increasing the time the yacht can spend at anchor and maneuvering without consuming diesel fuel.

Cav. Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo, enthusiastically commented:
"Sanlorenzo is a pioneer in the journey towards carbon neutrality in the world of leisure boating: through the tireless work of our Research and Development department, we continue to take revolutionary steps in the introduction of technological systems aimed at reducing the environmental impact of yachts. We are proud to receive this approval from Lloyd's Register as we work together to be pioneers in the decarbonization paths for the leisure boating industry".
