Sustainability and innovation lie at the heart of the partnership between Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta. This collaboration underscores Sanlorenzo’s commitment to sustainability, focusing on the development of innovative carbon-neutral power generation technologies, a key pillar of their 2023-25 industrial plan. The company is working with global leaders in energy and E-fuels to revolutionize the entire yachting industry. Aligned with its “Road to 2030” strategy, Sanlorenzo aims to launch its first 50 Steel in 2024, equipped with the Reformer Fuel Cell modular system, which converts green methanol into hydrogen, then into electricity to power all hotel systems, without storing hydrogen on board. By the decade’s end, Sanlorenzo plans to launch the first superyacht powered solely by green methanol, addressing the yachting industry's demand for zero-emission power generation. This goal will be made possible through ongoing investments in innovation, cutting-edge technologies, and collaborations with partners like Volvo Penta, who share the sustainability objectives for the yachting sector. The partnership began with the launch of the SX88, a motoryacht with Volvo IPS1050 engines, which represents a smart combination of classic motoryacht design with modern propulsion technology. At Düsseldorf 2024, Volvo Penta will introduce the IPS Professional Platform, an innovative system based on the revolutionary Volvo Penta IPS, offering improved efficiency, extended cruising range, higher top speed, and faster acceleration. This system optimizes fuel consumption and reduces emissions, allowing installation on superyachts from 25 to over 55 meters in length, with top speeds ranging from 12 to 40 knots. This partnership represents a historic step toward zero-impact yachting. In a strategic move, Sanlorenzo will unveil two new models, SX120 (due for launch in 2025) and SX132 (launching in 2027), equipped with the IPS Professional Platform at the Blue Innovation Dock in Düsseldorf. The IPS Professional Platform is a groundbreaking advancement in yachting, integrating seamlessly with Sanlorenzo’s visionary yacht designs. It allows for a combined energy source usage, from combustion engines with renewable fuels to fully electric or hybrid solutions, optimizing energy usage based on navigation needs. The two new SX models will offer unprecedented space flexibility, thanks to the compact size of the Volvo Penta platform, which will also allow customization of the aft deck layout based on the owner's preferences. This evolution marks a significant milestone in the successful partnership between Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta, combining efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the yachting industry through continuous research and innovation.
