The First Sanlorenzo 57Steel Launched

Sanlorenzo has launched the first unit of the 57Steel line in La Spezia, the shipyard's superyacht production headquarters. The water launch of this metal model marks a significant milestone in the continuous growth of the Superyacht Division.

This first 56.50-meter-long unit, featuring 5 decks and a gross tonnage of 1050 GT, is the prototype of the line and will be delivered to its owner in early 2023.

In terms of design, the new model from Sanlorenzo was handled by Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project, who, for the first time, designed the exterior lines of a superyacht of this size.

The 57Steel is an ambitious project, behind which there was an intense process of typological experimentation, a significant study that has always been the basis of the research Zuccon International Project has conducted with passion since the beginning of our collaboration with Sanlorenzo. The goal was to create a 1050 GT yacht with functional and living spaces typically found on larger boats. From a design perspective, the biggest challenge was finding the right balance between the volumes and proportions that characterize the boat. There is no ostentation in the design, and the exterior lines are defined, extremely fluid, transparent, and clear, reflecting the shipyard’s language. We can define the 57Steel as a masterful balancing act between content and container”.

This new superyacht features truly exceptional indoor and outdoor spaces and reimagines the various functions of onboard environments. The layout of the 57Steel alters the traditional design by relocating the wheelhouse, which is normally found at the bow of the upper deck, to another deck — the bridge deck, typical of larger vessels — providing the opportunity to use the upper deck in a new way. Here, the owner’s cabin overlooks the expansive Owner deck, a private deck that offers an exclusive sea view.

Thanks to the innovative layout, a large full-beam VIP cabin has been placed forward on the main deck, which can also be used as a second owner’s cabin. On the same deck, the aft area features a transparent-bottom pool that allows light to filter into the space below, gently defining the areas of the beach club, which can be further extended towards the water thanks to folding terraces.

The interiors, designed by Vickers Studio from London, were created in close collaboration with the client, resulting in warm and inviting spaces that perfectly align with the owner’s ideas and desires.

We were tasked with creating a warm, detailed, and inviting interior for an experienced owner and his family aboard this 56-meter steel Sanlorenzo. The design process was a tremendous creative pleasure, and the shipyard's team responded excellently to our design direction, creating a wonderful interior. We were superbly supported by the management and construction team at West Nautical, who proved extremely professional. We've worked with Sanlorenzo in the past and are familiar with their attention to detail, but on this yacht, it was exceptional”.
John Vickers, Vickers Studio

The newly launched 57Steel is the first of four sold units, alongside 21 other superyachts ranging from 44 to 73 meters currently under construction. The Superyacht Division continues to experience steady growth and reaffirms its leadership in the metal sector with a fleet of 45 units currently in operation.
